Ever been involved in awkward situations where you say bye to a
person and instead of parting ways both of you walk in the
same direction?
Ever been undercover in a public place tracking a criminal, when you awkwardly bump into your grandma and got your cover blown?
Ever wanted some personal space to yourself without other people interrupting you every 5 minutes with small talk.
If you answered yes to any of the above scenarios I present to you a
new addition to your vocabulary “Mello”(It comes with a cool and
discrete hand sign too!!) . It roughly translates to ‘You don’t see me,I
don’t see you’ (in the nicest way of course!!).
HOW TO USE:If a person conveys ‘Mello’
to the other person it is to be understood that a mutually agreed deal
is in place in which both persons stop acknowledging the existence of
the other for a rationally long period (as dictated by
circumstances). Remember:Misuse of ‘Mello’ is socially frowned upon,So
use it in appropriate situations only.(See ‘Mello Manners’ below)
A polite way of ending dead conversations way past their expiry
time, awkward social meetings and cover-blowing encounters , it is a
great substitute for social keywords like ‘Hi’,’Hello’,’Bye’ for the
individual in need (of precious personal space).
SOCIAL USAGE EXAMPLE:Toma and Dav were good
friends at school. They had not seen each other for a long time and both
of them have grown up and Toma is now a secret agent. While Toma was on
his way to an urgent rendezvous with his colleague,he unexpectedly meets
Dav.Inspite of the urgency of the meeting Toma decides to stop for a
brief moment to chat with his old friend. However after a brief talk he
decides its time to return back on his mission. So he says “It was great
meeting you Dav, Mello and see you later”.The word Mello immediately
registers in Dav’s head.He understands Toma is in the middle of
something important. He replies “Mello, you too my friend,Let’s meet
later then..:)”.He acknowledged Toma’s need to get back to his business
and the two split ways briskly with the promise of meeting later.Later
(after the threat to world peace was effectively neutralised) Toma
invites Dav and his other schoolmates to a get together at his house for
a barbecue night and relives the sweet old memories.
Like the example shown above there is a growing need for a word to
convey the need for some personal space in a polite manner in an
increasingly packed and complex world of today.
MELLO MANNERS
1)If you had conveyed Mello to a person and he acknowledges you,you should understand that the other person is
accommodating
your need for personal space and so in the name of mutual respect you
should be thankful in your attitude to the other person during future
meetings.
2)It is not good Mello Manners to convey Mello to a person and chat
with another person you met after that without attending to your
business for which you needed your personal space
. IMPORTANT:Mello is not a word to avoid people without due cause.
